Class 12 Mrs Lilleker
Class 12 is a lovely class to be in! The children have settled in to Year 5 very well and are becoming extremely mature young people. They are conscientious learners but have a fun and adventurous approach to all they do in school. Choosing a star of the week is always a tricky decision in class 12 as there are so many little stars to choose from!
We are currently floating in outer Space and travelling through light-years of intergalactic moons and planets in our quest to become Thorpe Hesley’s most knowledgeable space travellers. The children will be studying our class text ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cottrell Boyce in literacy and we are already up to the knees in our space boots studying the interesting adventures of Liam Digby. In the first week of term the children were given their space menus for their creative homework (a copy of this can also be found on the website) and this states the fortnightly dates for when this needs to be handed in. Speaking of which... homework day in Year 5 is always Friday (fortnightly for creative) and each week children will be given a literacy or maths tasks, usually linked to work we have done in school. They will also bring home weekly spellings and have the same expectation of home-reading as they had in Y4. Home reading is checked every Monday and children will be awarded for plenty of home reading through a cinema night….. ask your child for more details about this.
PE is every Thursday and will also be another day in the week so please ensure PE kits are in school every school day and taken home at weekends should they require a wash. The teachers in year 5 include myself (Mrs Lilleker), Ms Lambert, Mr Docherty, Mrs Wallhead and Mrs Hobson and any one of us would be happy to chat to you at any time if you have any concerns.
